DETAILS

As a new product with no existing user base, the challenge was to define and engage a high-income audience that didn’t “need” free giveaways but was seeking a new, enjoyable online hobby. We also needed to balance user trust and friction with shareholder goals of registration-based success. The platform had to feel seamless, premium, and reliable while incentivizing engagement, all within the constraints of a web-first experience.

User Research

I conducted market research using usertesting.com and created five personas, ultimately targeting three key users: Sarah, Jan, and Robert, reflecting the high-end demographic and aligning with business goals of brand partnerships. Each persona had a journey map, incorporating acquisition channels from social media and newsletter ads, which guided the product roadmap.

I ran multiple rounds of interactive prototype testing on Maze.co to identify usability gaps, including navigation hesitation, account creation friction, and mobile interaction pain points. Research insights informed iterative refinements to ensure a smooth, engaging, and trust-building experience.

Strategic Insights

Research highlighted that our audience valued autonomy, simplicity, and trust over free incentives. Key findings included:

  • Users may abandon sweepstakes if account creation felt forced or intrusive.

  • High-income users were cautious and needed reassurance through branding and interface cues.

  • Clear navigation, visible interaction cues, and responsive design were critical to engagement.

  • Branding and visual language could signal quality and reliability, reinforcing credibility for both users and partner brands.

  • Seamless onboarding and interaction could turn first-time users into repeat participants, driving long-term engagement.

Design System & Asset Library

I developed a comprehensive style guide and maintained the UI asset library in Sketch + InVision DSM, collaborating with developers to ensure consistency across platforms and iterations.

The logo, color palette, and UI elements were designed to convey sophistication, neutrality, and credibility. Colors were chosen based on research and psychology to appeal to all genders while signaling premium quality and safety. The logomark, a subtle wheel, reinforced brand identity without overwhelming the design.

The Solution

To create a seamless, premium sweepstakes experience, the solution combined trust-driven branding, persona-led journey mapping, and responsive web design, supported by a scalable design system and iterative user testing.

Progressive Web App with Responsive Experience

Designs were optimized for both mobile and web, with interactive prototypes tested to refine navigation, dashboard interactions, and sweepstakes entry. Account creation was reimagined as an optional, post-entry prompt, balancing trust-building for users with shareholder registration goals.
